Graphic element for a logo I completed for a client that wanted to focus on “looking to the future for students” and the year 2020 specifically. Since the year 2020 was the focus, (no pun intended… ok maybe just a little) I wanted to deliberately make the optical standard of 20/20 vision the focus. I knew I wanted the logo to contain an element that would represent the eye, and I knew I wanted to play with time, and looking to the future, and create a duality within this logo. I decided to go with 12 iris “spikes” to mirror that of a clock, to signify time running out. The hour and minute hands of the clock are on 8 and 4 which in this case would be 8:20pm. 8:20pm in military time is 20:20.
Aperture logo.
Before “Stem & Thorn” was created I was playing around with naming the brand “Aperture”. I ultimately decided against it because I didn’t want to have to spell it for people every time I told them the name of my brand. If I only had an elevator ride to pitch my brand I didn’t want to spend most of the time spelling it. But here’s what the logo might have looked like if I had stuck with that name.
Here is the runner up for the Stem & Thorn monogram logo I posted a while back. It was a tough decision but at the end of the day this reminded me too much of the Yves Saint Laurent logo so I decided to go with the other one instead.
Stem & Thorn monogram logo. Designed by me. I’m really proud of this one… You may be seeing a lot more of this little guy VERY soon.
