“Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! I say. Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows.”—Pope Paul VI
How did you come up with the name Stem and Thorn? It's interesting. (If it can't be revealed, that's cool lol.)
First off, that playlist on your page got me through an entire night of painting earlier this week. JAMMING!!!!
I’ll give you the run down of what Stem & Thorn is in a nut shell…
Everyone sees a rose & respects it as one of the most beautiful things nature has to offer. If not for two vital forces, the “life-force” & the protection of that “life-force”, we would never see this “work of art”. The “Stem” & the “Thorn” are the unsung heroes in the rose story.
The stem represents everything that is vital to sustaining life; nutrients, water, photosynthesis. Similarly, The stem represents things that are important in our own lives. Why are we who we are? What pushes us? What motivates us to keep going when things get tough? What would we spend our lives doing if money didn’t exist?
The thorn protects that life-force from potential predators. This is closely related to the version of ourselves we allow the public to see. Everyone has a “public” & a “private” version of themselves.
“Stem & Thorn” is my personal project that will allow people to know more about me as an artist as well as me as a person. But “Stem & Thorn” isn’t solely about me. It’s a grassroots collective that will grow with the involvement of the fan base. It will challenge people to see growth within themselves, by asking “what am I doing today to help me live my dream tomorrow?” This question is the core of what “Stem & Thorn” is represents.
“Stem & Thorn” will be my hub for all things creative, & will include products that range from apparel to photography books to art prints to toys to short films.
My art is as much about my skill-set & training as it is about the experiences & relationships that inspire my work.
